Long artistic stay
The artistic stay provides you with 80h of practical course within a month, in a group of no more than 10 students.
In the beginning, the engraving was a process to duplicate
an image but those days are gone. Had it been a mere industrial process,
it would have disappeared since 1840, with the invention of photography.
Nowadays, many means to reproduce images exist; they are cheap and easy
to use; digitalization can fulfil any need of picture reproduction.
Nevertheless, not only have engraving, etching and lithography not disappeared
but, free from the needs they met, they proved to be what they were
from the start: arts.
By studying engraving, you will experienced the reason
why most greater plastic artists, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphaƫl,
Rembrandt, Goya, Manet, Renoir, Picasso, Bacon exercised it.
You will discover the most surprizing art, an art whose result appears only after the completion of the
work. You can never be sure of what you are going to get.
The course introduces you to the basics of engraving:
The material to start is provided: tools, plates, engraving paper, ink, etc.
Any engraver should wear protective glasses and gloves, and a thick overall to enter the workshop.
